Pilgrimage To Titusville

I had the pleasure of attending the Great Eastern Cutlery Rendezvous today in Titusville, PA. It was a three and a half hour drive through beautiful scenery on an perfect summer day. I took my son Jake and his/our friend Scotty with me because I knew they would enjoy it and it's something most kids wouldn't get the chance to do. I paid dearly for it in the salesroom but it was worth every penny.

We were given a very thorough and enjoyable tour by Pat Vroman and he discussed the basic operations and processes involved in producing a knife. The only think he wouldn't get into too much was the bone dying and jigging, except for to say it was all done in house which I knew.

As we made our way through the factory I noticed baskets of whalers with bone scales that will probably go out this week. They looked great. After the tour our host Ryan Daniels invited us all outside for a pig roast. We had a really nice lunch on the grounds and I had the opportunity to speak to Ryan one on one for quite awhile. I can see how GEC has gotten where they are with the enthusiasm, knowledge and friendliness of Ryan Daniels. He made us feel like we were guests for lunch in his home.

The way the factory is set up you can view the entire operation on the factory floor from the second floor walkway which is all plexi glass walls. All the rooms on the second floor are open to view too so you can see the entire operation except for the assembling room which Pete took us to and demonstrated assembling a knife.

It was a really great experience visiting GEC, I'll be going back next year. I'll post my purchases on the mail call thread. ::ds::

Well, I bought him a half congress with St. Paddy scales, a beautiful knife. Then later on he spied the stained glass Templar and loved it I so bought him that too. You only go around once... ::ds::

Caleb, your tooth pick from Ryan is fantastic. What a gift!

Vikingdog,

Bret just showed me your pictures. We were on the steps taking pictures with Ryan when you guys headed back inside with him at the end. I am sorry that I didn't know who you were. :?

I did however get to meet Charlie (waynorth or upnorth) at the Queen show on Friday. He heard me tell someone else I was knifegirl888 & he introduced himself. I was really happy to talk with him! I just wish I would have known who you were... It would have been great to talk with you also! Next time maybe?

I was happy to meet Nifbuf, David Krause, and PA knives this weekend. We also ran into Chet & BigDen. It was a really nice time!

Ryan, Courtney, Bill and the Great Eastern employees were all terrific. I will have some pictures to post later. :)

Kathy, did you guys get there later in the day? We got there about 10:45 (in time for lunch :D ) I saw a group on the steps with Ryan when we were getting ready to leave.

I saw him lick your knife and had to laugh out loud. Evidently that's a good way to check for genuine ivory. :D
