All About Pocket Knives

Of course this topic will only be hot after christmas, but I figured why not start it now? As a unwritten family tradition, we open our presents a few days early (it just always seems to happen that way) since we have no family that comes over or nothing just me, ma and pa.
Well, I gave my mom a boning knife I made for the kitchen and made dad a drop point hunting knife, and wondered what I may get (if anything ). Well, I knew the night started off good when the first package I opened was a new buck tempest! woohoo! I then used my new tempest to open the other goodies they had stashed away. Among them was "the complete guide to pocket knife repair" (an excellent read!), some dremel accesories for the shop, a new 10" mill file, an led light, a Rossi .410 shotgun and my dad's last handmade hunting knife! .
I didn't know what to say about the latter, I was in total shock; words could not express how I felt. I'll post pictures of it is ya'll are interested in seeing.

I'd enjoy seeing a picture of your Dad's last handmade hunting knife, see where your inspiration comes from.

The big guy is bringing me a vertical/horizontal metal cutting bandsaw, most of it anyway No more hacksaw work, well just a little.

I got this ol' Case. Was told it belonged to my step-dad's dad. I never knew him, but I do like this knife...

How thoughtless of me, I'd love to see some of your Dad's work, MM.

Nice knife MM. One of my most treasured knives is one my Grandfather made, plus the hatchet he made that he used cruising timber for the CCC. You will probably have to ask your Dad about the CCC or maybe your Granddad.

I also have several knives my Dad gave me that were his. The family connection is what makes them do precious to me. You can treasure that knife your Dad made, and pass it along to your Grand kids with stories about your Dad. It don't get much better!

Well I'm cheating by a few days but my wife was a little sneaky this year, I had a couple of knives already on order from a side job and she had the audacity to try to wrap them up for Christmas..

So today which turned out to be wrap a gift day, I convinced her that I might as well save her the trouble..

The Scagel is from her and the Cotton Sampler and both Premier's are knives she bamboozled from me for Christmas...I think I'll keep her and her shifty ways...

Santa brought me a Patrick Nihiser Limited Edition, 5 of 5 Active Duty. I have also acquired an Allen Elishewitz Pirate, with RWL blade, and fern green Fibermascus.

Santa was really nice to me this year, as he brought me a large size flylock with the swing guard. It's a project knife as it needs handles and a spring. Blade is full. So now I'll be hunting for the right parts I need, but thats most of the fun to me. I also recieved a Puma knife pick in a little leather pouch. Mark.

OOPs I must have been BAD.

No knife from the fat lady. But I did get her to pay me $100.00 on my camera Kodak Z700 with printer. Now she says she can us it too.
I got her a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico hmmm

O well I think I will go to the Queen Cutlery factory on my vacation, visit with Jennie Sullivann.

Well, you ask about a fat man, but I wasn't on his list. Don't know if that means I was bad of just too old.

I'll show you what my wife bought me knife wise and describe the rest.

My wife got me a Buck Bantam (BHW) 286-BK, a dozen sharpening rods, a polishing cloth, and a 24 knife KnivesLive.com knife case. (which is a story by itself)

I got my two oldest children a couple of beautiful Schrade Walden Peanuts with Amber Stag handles.

My mistake was in giving her the choice of buying me a less expensive knife. Women can't pass that up if you give them the choice. I also asked for Case, U.S.A. Buck, U.S.A. made Kershaws, Bear and Son, Keen Kutter, Boker, Eye Brand, a Gil Hibben throwing knife set, as well as several others.

OK, so she placed her order in her name and I happened to order the Schrade Waldens on the same day or close to the same day and the packages arrived together. Both packages had my name on them, so I opened hers first by mistake and my wife was pissed. I saw it wasn't what I ordered I closed it and opened my package. I'm nice that way, and I need some surprises for Christmas besides the car falling apart on us.

She called the company and they second day expressed the knife case as an apology for messing up on the addressee.

OK, you listened to my story, so now you can see the knives.

The knife my wife got for me on ebay (the one I knew about) finally arrived. It is a sweet split back whittler (I guess) but it has a file for one of the small blades. Is that still called a whittler?

Nice bone handles. Just a awesome little knife.
The blades are really highly polished, the scanner makes them look dark.

It sounds like you have got some pretty good appreciation of knives going on at your house. Your knives look great, the Buck looks like it would just melt into your hand for comfort and balance. I am going to have to investigate some into the Schrade knives gallery, evidently I am mising out on some great looking knives...

Hey Dale,

The look of your knife is the reason why I still have an attraction to the vintage knives of yesteryear. Those handles are great you just don't see those on today's knives. It sure looks like a whittler to me, what time frame was that made it looks pretty early to me...

Well, I was lucky enough to get a New Case stockman! And yes, it was christened when I opened up the blades to take a picture to post it here & got a little "nick", the blades are sharp!!!
