All About Pocket Knives

Howdy friends,

Any Elephant Toe/Sunfish collectors here besides me may want to check out this pre 1960's Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Co. Sunfish/Elephant Toe that's up for bid on ebay right now (Item number: 250064389778) ....In my experience with these older vest pocket Ax knives in this condition is that it is my belief it has been cleaned at some point in time but what I really like about this knife is that it appears to have very little shrinkage to the handles for its age, it must have been well cared for & left in an open air environment! ....I have hopes that my good friend Scott King will chime in on this post & give us his opinion on this piece?

It is a beauty, Roger. You won't find many old toenails in this condition.

I am fine as a collector of toenails with cell handles. It really depends on what you want to collect. If you are into HSB and toenails, then you will need to get ones with cell handles as HSB made a large variety of them.

HSB is a great Hardware Store Brand to collect. Toenails with this stamp come in a large variety, including bone and cell handles. I have several and value them. HSB was one of a small handful of companies that sold toenails after the 1930/40's, so HSB toenails are not as hard to find as some of the very early brands.

Thanks for your kind words about the site, Bill.

I am finding it harder and harder to keep up with the updates to the site, but will do my best for 2007 (got at full time job this past year that has loaded my plate

)

Roger and John Adams have encouraged me to add Case Classic toenails to the site and with the amount of demand (read climbing values and collectiblity) these toenails are experiencing, I have it on my "to do" list and hopefully can get it done this new year.
