All About Pocket Knives

Hey Folks,

What do you think about this knife? I really like it no question, have about 1/8 of the funds I think it takes to buy it. However, What does an "Apart Knife" mean in the context of this auction? I've bought from this seller and been totally satisfied, but what could this statement really mean?

I think he means "take apart" as in you take it apart to use it..?
that thing looks fishy to me....

It comes apart to use the knife, fork, spoon. Check pictures on auction.

I think the knife from 54rodgers on Ebay is a fine knife. "Take Apart " refers to the design of the knife ... it can be taken apart to use the utensils. The knife has been cleaned and buffed ...... someone took their time and did a fine job. Very nice knife .... a little rich for my blood, but a very fine looking knife.

"take apart" as he described it means it makes more than one. You can use the knife and fork separately maybe the spoon too. I'm not familiar with that version.

I would imagine that one operates similarly, I just looked at ALL the pictures and it make three utensils the same way mine makes two.

That's a neat knife but way too shiny in my opinion. However, shiny sells so who am I to complain.

That seller does or has someone who does a super job of cleaning knives. You won't likely find one cleaned up any more skillfully. He makes it clear in the description that the knife has been "touched up" to make it shine like new. He has a loyal following and I don't think you have to worrry at all about the legitimacy of that knife.

This seller is honest. I have known him for a long time. I have bought several knives from him over the years and I believe I have even sold him a few with never a problem.

Don't know the man but if you take a look at what else he is selling,he has 13 items that currently have multiple bids of between $40 and $400 plus.On that basis I would say that he is probably very legitimate.He also has over 3300 feedbacks.

i have also won some knives from him over the years. upstanding seller. very honest and ligit. if you aren't satisfied, he will refund your money.some of the best knife cleaning around.

This is a great knife from an honest seller . Scroll down on his pics to see the "take apart" feature . He most likely cleaned it himself (may be one of the best cleaners in the biz) . I think that it will sell in the $700 - $800 range .

I see "Apart" it makes me nervous even as I bought a few from him with absoloute no problems. Cleaned is not what I prefer but do not want to shy away from a quality knife, My wife would be really upset with me if I made an attempt at this one. Can't say I would not understand its far from chump change

The seller is a good guy,,I visited with him alot in Pa. I got to give a shout too his wife too,,shes a sweetheart and is a blast visit with,,especially when you bring up Obama,,lol!
Theres nothing wrong with the knife,,probably just been cleaned up like most of the knives he sells.

Bonehead, i hope you win it. you will get that feeling of walking out of you local hardware store 80 years ago. i have many of his knives and never a problem. GOOD LUCK

I'm sure it would be a nice addition to your collection. A small 4" non-takeapart green bone hobo in the Tested era books for $750 in mint condition, if that helps you any.

Well, not sure if the -52 pattern hobo in my book is take apart or not.

Will be interesting to see what it goes for. Book value is only a guideline and I have seen a lot of rare knives in great condition exceed book value on Ebay. More common knives in the same great condition will often bring 60 to 70% of book value. Sargent has told me that putting book values on knives is a very unscientific process at best.
This is a rare pattern to find in this condition and might very well exceed the book value.
It wii exceed 700.00 IMO.

Sold for 86% of Sargent's and/or Parker's book . That's a good price in this economy . Just think how much it would have brought if congress had got the debt limit raised in time for more people to bid on it .

That is a sweet knife, and it's just as well I can't afford it, as I couldn't own one like that and not use it...which would probably result in it getting "lost" with my luck.

Just my opinion of course but from what I've observed over the past year and a half, it appears to me that the knife market is rebounding. That's from a buyers perspective. It would be interesting to see what the sellers have to say on the subject.

All 51 and 52 pattern hobos are take aparts.

The only "hobo" made by Case that is not a take a part is the WWI "Red Cross" knife - spear blade and spoon with wood handles.
