All About Pocket Knives

I saw this set on ebay and it looks very nice but it isn't a true matching set is it? Shouldn't the hatchet be a Western, not Plumb?

Tank my primary information source, Official Scout Blades by Ed Holbrook is clear as mud as to who made the knife and hatchet combo sets. I have serious doubts that the knife in that ebay set is the correct one because it does not bear the scout emblem on the blade, which is characteristic of the official Boy Scout fixed blades made by Western.

Thanks guys, i had sold a couple of knives and was thinking of bidding on it but it looks too hokey. Good eye Phil, i should have noticed that. I searched ended auctions and the going prices on the Plumb's are around 20.00. So 70+ is steep.

I have this sent in near new condition. The hatchets were made by Plumb.

Everything else looks OK except he does not show a picture of the reverse side of the tang on the knife, this should be stamped with the BS logo.

Someone should email the seller and ask if it is marked as such, if not the knife is a replacement as Phil suggested.

Even if it were the knife is easy to find and replace with the correct one

Thanks Miller, I would really love to own a set like that, to me that's the holy grail of Boy Scout cutlery. I was just worried it wasn't an authentic set. I may try to win it but it is quickly getting out of my price range. What's top money for a set like this?

Can`t rightly say what the top money is on that set.

I would rate it at very good condition from what I can see. IIRC one sold on the bay like that in the $175 range a few years ago.

I did see one sell for $300 unused in the box

I sent him an email about the tang stamp. I guess we'll see. Wish me luck.

I received a reply back from the seller. It isn't stamped with the BS logo. Now i'm torn.

OK, then the knife could be a replacement.

Some of the knives were acid etched on the blade face with the BS logo and not tang stamped.

Hard to say anymore without having the knife in hand

I find it rather odd that of all the photos showing the knife, the only one showing the reverse side is when the blade is completely sheathed.

tank, I happen to have 2 of those Western scout fixed blades, one with the original sheath and the sheath has those Boy Scout emblem snaps on it. The Boy Scout emblem pictured on the axe head should be on the reverse side of the fixed blade ricasso, as both of mine have it. Like you I would love to add an authentic axe/knife set to my collection. They're out there, we just have to be patient.

I am hooping to piece one together.
