All About Pocket Knives

About a year ago I sent 4 knives out for repair to a knife maker, repairman in California. Sadly this fella is an AAPK member. These were pretty nice knives with minor handle issues. I was contacted saying that 3 of them were finished and given a total for repairs on the 3. I sent payment and waited quite a while and never recieved the knives. I contacted the fella, and he said he forgot to mail them, and the fourth knife was almost done, so being patient I said just wait and ship them all when they are all done. I have been tryin for the past 2 months to contact the guy about sending the 3 back and inquiring about the fourth one that wasnt finished. I have been very patient but now realize that I will never see these knives again. Im guessing they are now part of this fellas collection or have long since been sold. So if by chance, anyone sees these 4 knives together for sale I would appreciate a heads up:

Remington 4 blade Purina cattle with minor handle damage
Remington 7244 bartenders knife
Remington R1773 easy opener
Union cutlery hobo

it probably would be wise if you included his name. for three reasons, 1.,you would maybe find someone who personally knows this person and can try and resolve this issue for you via 3rd party. 2, you would also alert any future potential customers, and 3, just out of seeing his name in print, he or she would resolve this issue with you.......

I would like to see his name too. I send knives out for repair often and it would kill me to know I could have avoided being tossed. That is one of the benifits of belonging to a group like this forum. When one is cheated we all are.

Hey guys, I didnt have intentions of publicly bashing the fella on here, but chet you make a good point. I had sent the knives to Jeff Mutz (jmutzknives). He seems to be a fairrly honest fella but im ikind a wondering now.

if you followed the proper protocol and gave him plenty of time and inqueries, then you have done the right thing now.. maybe you can get some answers....good luck

btw, if someone scraffed up one of my easy opens, esp remington. i would be pounding on their door...

UMCKnifeguy, I'm not in no means taking up for Jeff, but that don't sound like the Jeff I've dealt with, and others whom I know have dealt with him. Something must be going on personally for him to be having these problems. In no way would I think Jeff would have sold your knives out from under you.

Hopefully all of this can be resolved.

Bamafan, I would have to agree. Jeff seems like good people. Just wish I would hear back from him. I really dont want people on here to think that im trying to bash the guy because im not. I would just like my knives back.

I dont think you are "outing" anyone. I would be very upset if this happened to me.
We have all had troubling times and difficult issues in our lives from personal health to deaths of loved ones but honestly, there is no excuse for this to go on this long. (Assuming its a simular reason to begin with for the delay).
Waiting over a YEAR and having someone simply avoiding and contacting you is totally unacceptable! It takes less than a MINUTE to return a email or a phone call. I am not saying this guy is a bad guy because I dont know him but lets face it, that long without a response after taking someones hard earned money and items isnt cool. There is no other way to spin it!

Aren't the dealings of folks involved in swaping, buying and repair of knives just as private or nearly so.

I sent a guy a valuable turn of the century banjo to have a new neck put on it over two years ago, and he has not gotten it done yet. I have also given him an $1100.00 down payment. He always has an excuse why it is not done, but says it will be done in a month.

Well, actually I'me happy to see that I'm not the only Person to be having Problems with him. ..cause I was having difficulty on how to approach the situation.
He has owed me a knife for over 4 Months now!!
I have sent him numerous emails and even called him twice......each time its the same old song and dance.."Its in the mail"...or the most popular.."I lost your address".
As of last week..I've completely stopped calling or emailing him. ...I'm tired of hearing the lies and BS!!
I understand that He might be having problems......But ya know..WE ALL HAVE PROBLEMS!!....its how we deal with them that shows or makes us who we are!!

I sent a 71050, Case Classic Coke bottle to a(then) member by the name of Duffy, on approval over 3 years ago. Never heard another word out of him. I don't think he's even a member anymore.

Probably a good thing you said something, better if you said something say at three months even. I know that if that happened to me, I would be all over it posting to forums and saying everything I could to everyone else to get the situation right, and possibly stop someone else from getting jipped. I got jipped on ebay, got my money back though, but never again. Payment in full when a tracking number is sent to me.

Three months is still a longggg time to return something. If a business is backlogged, one should say so, and say before the purchase is made what the timefram will be. 1 month after given timeframe should be a ground for a discount, two months should be a grounds for 50 percent discount in my opinion. At my business, if we are over the two week waiting period on something promised, we give 50 percent off. Go post all you can about this man at every website you can. ONE YEAR is absolutely unacceptable for absolutely anything, especially if promised at a much earlier date.

I really hate to post to this thread but need to make a comment on one that happened to me. I picked up a group of knives and there was a HS&B toenail in the group that needed some work. I sent the knife to a member, and please don't aske me to say who he is he knows who he is, and told him fix the knife and I will put it on the site for the monthly give a way. It has been YEARS and the few times I asked him about it he just said that he will get to it. I stopped asking and figured the knife was gone and my idea about giving the knife away was also dead. As most of you know I don't like to have knives worked on but prefer to keep them as I get them but if I ever did need something done it would not be sent to him that's for sure.

Have had an issue with afore mentioned aapk member myself... Contradictory fella... He did me right on one deal... Wrong on another... Hooked me for 4 knives on a trade... BEWARE...

Yeah.....He is a strange kinda Fellow. He did me right on 2 previous deals and then screwed me on this last one.
This last deal was for 3 of my knives....I felt that He was getting the short end of the deal ..so I threw in another one.
I WAS WRONG!!

Sad to say but these threads come up every so often. Sometimes, and I don't know why, people are reluctant to name names. In this case I'm glad they did. I'd hate to do business with someone that had already fleeced other members of this site.

I used to be a member of a cigar oriented website that had a forum just for comments related to trading, selling etc. You'd rate the member on how well they treated you in your dealings with them. Kind of like ebay or angieslist.com. 99% of them were favorable and it left no doubt who not to trust. Maybe we need a forum like this?

I understand why some are reluctant to name names, but it really doesnt do anyone any good if you dont.

I couldnt agree more...I dont want to get burned so it will help other people from getting burned plus it might stop people from doing it if they will get outed

I hope there is some sort of explanation, and maybe things can be made right.
If I'm not mistaken, he auctioned one of his knives a while back for Tank.

I would like to think knife people are at least a cut or two above the average Joe.
But I guess when money gets involved......
