The Drought has Lifted

After several dry months of not being able to snag anything from the bay, the drought has lifted. Pre-WWII W.H. Morley utility/camper. Seems to have nice bone handles. Anybody know what the notch in the screwdriver blade is for? That is, assuming that it is a screwdriver blade.

Wire stripper notch...similar notch still used on Victorinox SAKs.

Hey thanks, Steve. Then it would probably be more of a utility that a camper?

After looking at it again, it may be more likely intended as a tack puller, also referred to as a box opener. That may be more likely given the age of the knife.

More of a general utility knife in any event.

That's a nice thirst quencher, TJ.

I agree, the notch is most likely a tack or brad lifter for opening old cigar boxes.

Kind of like on this old Robeson box knife.

Thanks fellers. Man, I'll tell ya, it's sure been dry for me. Just can't seem to buy anything anymore for what I want to pay for it. Going the same route as my Zippos did, get in and then everybody else gets in too. I guess the other bidders just let me have this one. Didn't think that $19 was too bad. :)

Charlie, why do they call it a box knife? Seems to have a lot more applications than opening boxes.

Nice knife Tom. At first glance I thought it was a broken blade, never saw one like that. Very nice scales on that one. ::tu::

I suspect "Box Knife" is a collector's term, not a manufacturer's term.

I learned it from Levine's Guides.

You're probably right Willie. Satisfying a cigarette habit and a knife habit do get expensive ::facepalm::
