All About Pocket Knives

Has anyone ever tried to cast celluloid for handles? I'm not talking about making enough to mass produce knives, but a few 1 x 5" pcs for a few knives. A friend told me that when they were in high school they made key chains from celluloid that had feathers and 4-leaf clovers floating in them. He said it was made from a resin that came in a box and hardener was added. When it was set up you buffed it out. I would like to experiment. I saw some wallpaper border with the candy cane stripes on them that would look nice. Any ideas what this stuff is called or where to get it?
