I was happy to grab this one. It's being shipped from Tel Aviv, Israel ($39.00 with shipping). I was surprised I won it for that price. She may not be the prettiest knife I own in my collection but it has real history. I can't wait to get in my hands and see it in my showcase.

Interesting knife. The various states that make-up Germany didn't become unified as a country until 1871. I think the knife was made after 1891 when the country of origin was required on imports to the US.

added: Just looked at the link posted above.... The Don Carlos trademark dates to 1931.

hello,
it would be surprising if this knife dates from the XVIIIth century - the markings of the blade uses a more modern typeface and then labeling techniques were less accurate

so what type of blade is it and for what use, reminds me of my carrot that a friend made for me, usefull little knife,

Update: I received the knife in the mail. The knife appears to have very old dry out now leather for handles. I also found a number on the blade 4238. Also along with the ace of spade stamp there is another stamp that I believe to be to skeleton keys crossed.
It's a heavy knife 8 1/2 inches long (total), the blade is tapered from 1 3/4" to about 1 1/8 inches
I found this on the internet. It shows the skeleton key marking and dates it to 1895 but the number listed with that info is 6082 ? So I'm still a bit lost on the sure date of this knife.

Probably sometime that year 1895.
And there were many markings that changed within that year.

With the Don Carlos mark it must be 1931 or later as shown in the original link.

I found this Herder knife amongst my fixed blade knives. It's 10 1/4" long and looks like a butcher knife. It seems rather crudely made. Al

Does the Don Carlos have anything to do with the Don Carlos Fuente of the famous cigar company Fuente Cigars? He is known as Don Carlos in the cigar world?
