Knife Size.... Whaddya Like?

I prefer a knife of at least Banana Slug sized or better.
I have an easier time gripping them with old hands. What about you guys? Is a pocket friendly size more important? Is bigger better, or is there such a thing as "too much knife" or "politically uncorrectly sized"?

Great question. I think this 48 is the perfect size for me. Its slim enough for the pocket but big enough to do what you ask of it. It measures a nice 3 7/8'' closed and 7" open.

I like a big knife Barry, for much the same reason as you, ease of use. I got big hands, kinda stiff and fingers busted up from years of contracting. Carry a 4 1/4 Trapper everyday and or a folding hunter like below, 5 inches closed in back pocket. Away from work prefer 3 3/4 closed or better.

I like 3.5-3.62 for EDC but have more in the 3.75-4.25 range

Jack you better stab that thang in the back.

Gino; I like that 48 pattern too. Don't have a single blade one, but I'll tote this'un around some.
Earl, I know exactly where you're comin' from.

Here's a dandy that I never could get used to lookin' at, but it turned out to be about my favorite work knife. It's got a big
4 inch handle and opens from the same end, which I prefer. The wharncliffe blade is really handy!
I just noticed that the shield is upside-down on the Furtaker. What's up with that?
JW, you left a lot of wiggle room in size!

I worked for over 30 years in carpentry, and am used to handling tools. I would try to use the largest tool for the job at hand. Large screwdriver, pliers, pry bar, snips, whatever. So I like a large knife too. I feel more confident with a big, sharp knife if I have some cutting to do, which isn't often. I like winter clothes for carrying large knives and small guns.
Summer time......smaller knives ...........small guns sometimes. Good thread, Barry.
I still remember those slugs in Tacoma and my mother telling me to put salt on them.
Don't know if I could do it now. They were big.

I'm carrying my #48 jack now too Barry. I mix it up depending on where I'm going but that's a good size.

I feel that a long handle give's you better control...around 4" for pocket carry, any bigger I use a belt sheath, these are two of my favorite's...72 in the pocket and the 23 on my belt.
That's one ugly critter Barry...think I had knife once with handle's that color.....

I have. Several years ago I carried a USA Winchester, until after 9/11 it got donated to TSA.

I have a Chinese Marbles that's in my EDC rotation. (not that they get rotated very often)

Monk, those are some great picts of some dandy carry knives. I'm gonna get me a 72 in elk stag when they come out for an EDC.
Bob; those knives have some gorgeous stag on 'em. Really pretty carry pieces!
Thanks for all the great comments, guys!

Any pictures dirtpig? There are some beautiful knives on this thread as usual.
Barry, that banana slug kind of reminds me of the rotten banana scales GEC uses once in awhile.

Now yer talkin' Earl! That's the kind of patterns I'd like to see coming out! Both winners in my book and a helluva lot better choice than some fancy-pants leg knife, JMHO you understand.
