We are seeking ideas for new forum categories and moderators

If you have an idea for a knife related subject that you would like to see as a permanent category on the forum, send an email to [email protected]

Also contact me if you are interested in moderating your suggested category, or an existing category.

Role of a Moderator:

Moderators control individual forums. You can edit, delete, or prune any posts in your forum(s) that are inapropriate. You can move a post that may be more appropriate under a different topic.

You can " lock" your Forum so that members will only be able to read the postings. (sometimes useful if the topic starts to get way out of control and the original idea is lost). Please use with caution.

You can remove topics to keep your Forum information fresh and up-to-date.

If interested, Send me an email at [email protected]

Thanks,
Bryan

Hi Bryan,
First of all This is one great site IMHO.
I have an Idea for a couple catagories.
1) Same as the other forum,Kit Knives.
2) I would like to see a forum catagory on Upgraded factory knives(Adding to the mechanics and funcutionality of the knife) and Embellishment of factory knives(Changing handle material, schrim work, carving of the scales and or Bolsters, inlay etc)
Maybe a picture gallery with small discription. Could also maybe have tutorials on embellishment of factory knives.Things to do without spending tons of money on special equipment like Knifemakers do.
I think you already have one on "the care and feeding of a knife collection."

Hello Demaske,

I like your ideas. I just added a custom factory knife category. I think that is what you had in mind. I will be the first to admit though.... I know nothing about Customs, so my contribution to the subject will be 0.

Hey again Bryan,
Not quit my Idea. To me a Custom factory knife is like the Case copperlock 2004 christmas knive's. A Customized factory knife is one Customized by the owner or he/she had it customized .But not Factory customized.
But the Custom factory knife forum could and should includ both.
Well maybe I'm playing with symantics(words) and I apoligize for that. But as you know ,in the knife biz , words are a very important part of describing what you have for sale or what you want to buy.
Example:Stag vs. Stag bone vs. 6.5 Stag vs. 2nd cut Stag, etc . You get the Idea.
Thanks for listining to me rave.

Hey Bryan,

This is more of a comment than a suggestion.
I think as you get more members they will suggest more specialized forums for their special interest. Such as Buck,Camillus,Bark River Knife and Tool etc. etc. etc.I think this will be a natural growth of of your forum and this is a good thing.
I see it is picking up little by little.I also have seen in the short time I have been a member it has improved greatly.
Again Thanks Bryan. I do Like this forum and it is becomeing my first stop on my forums list.

Thank you for your comments Paul..

I am glad you like the forum. This is my first attempt at such a project, so I'm learning as I go. Hopefully as time passes, I'll be able to make it a great place for us to discuss our interests.

I know there is a want ads section, but what about a for sale or trade section?

Hi TKC,

I've been working on a knife auction site where AAPK members can buy, sell, or trade knives. When it is complete, I'll probably add a forum category where we can plug our items etc...

http://www.knife-auction.com if you want to check it out. I've got a lot of work to do yet, but it is coming along...

HI BRYAN:
EDUCATION ETCETCETC, I THINK THE GRADING EXERCIZE WAS OKAY.
WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IN ITS OWN PLACE, A LEARNING COLUMN
IF YOU PLEASE. THERE IS A LOT OF US WHO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT KNIVES IN GENERAL SPEAKING FROM A NOVICE PERSPECTIVE. COLLECTING ANYTHING SHOULD AND CAN BE A LEARNING EXPERIENCE.
IF THIS DOESN"T MAKE SENSE JUST DISREGARD.
THANKS

Hi MOSSDANCER,

I really like your idea, but I'm not sure how to present the category. I'll have to try and figure out how to set that up.

Fixed Blades

Hey Brian;
Talked to you quite some time ago about long knives, I just have a feeling that not everyone appreciates them like some others do. I notice that they are intermingled within folder categories. Is that okay or should there be a forum for fixed blades. I have several that I would like to have info and other thoughts on, Just rambling, so you can think about it or not. By the way I have never said how well your site is functioning. It is really liked by myself and especially newcomers. I say the more the merrier.
Have a good evening, thanks for listening.

In hind sight, I think I made a mistake by naming this place All About Pocket Knives. That was short sighted IMO... I should have gone with a name that did not imply "folders only". I want to talk about fixed blades here myself. I say we do so in the general knife discussion forum. If someone complains about it, maybe we'll just rename the site... ::tu::

Hey Bryan,

Hope all is well with ya when you read this. I recently read a Colin Patterson tutorial, and I also saw somebody's "before and after" pics somewhere on this site. I was amazed at Patterson's work, as well as T.A.'s work that I saw. I'd be thrilled to see more tutorial stuff and I think it'd be great to create a thread for pics of "before and after" repair relults of anyone's old clunker fixeruppers. Just a suggestion. You got a great thing goin here on the net.

Hey Whittlenut :D ,
Check the 'Son Of A Gun' Thread under Custom Factory Knives.
Jeff Jones (agteacher2) here on AAPK did one for me and I can highly recommend.
Excellent work & fast turn around

Combining two and a new forum.

Hi Bryan;
I have an idea, what do you say to combining the European and other foreign knives into European and the rest of the world and creating a new forum in the vacant slot for military and other fixed blade knives. Yeah I know S-K may not agree however it seems it would be optimum use of your resources. Just for your consideration.

Whittlenut,
I'm doing great and I love your idea! I'll most definitely start thinking about how to set that up.

Mossdancer,
I think that makes a lot of sense and I'll for sure look into the feasability of that also.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and please keep them coming. As soon as I get some time, I'll do a small reorganization around here to put as many of these ideas into action as possible. ::tu:: ::tu::

Hi Bryan, Mossdancer and all others following this thread,

A combined European and rest of the world category seems appropriate given the relative frequency of contributions in the two forums. A military forum would be very interesting in my opinion. :) s-k

Hi Bryan,

I think the site is most approriately named. I would like to see main focus remain on folders. I think that is what distinguishes this site from a number of other more general knife sites*. However, I support a new specialty category for fixed blade knives.

*The real difference between this site and the others I have visited is the genuine friendliness and helpfulness of the members.
