All About Pocket Knives

First of all, as a new member I'd like to say 'thanks' for such a great site.

I received a buck knife as a gift almost 20 years ago (early to mid 90's). It is a 3-Blade Model 703. It has a tang stamp "BUCK (Olde English Script) 703 U.S.A. and the Reverse tang is stamped 03168. On the primary blade there is a deep etch of a scene with a horse. It has what I think are birchwood handles with an inlaid shield with BUCK in Olde English Script in the middle of the birchwood handle.

I recently found the knife after thinking I had lost it for the last 15 years. It's nice when you find something you thought was long gone. The knife has never been used and is in pristine condition.

Can anyone determine the year it was made or its approximate worth? I don't plan on selling as it was given to me by a relative and has sentimental value.

I'll try to post a picture after I take some photo's and download them to my PC.

If the knife has little value, I'll use it as a daily pocket knife. If it's a collectible, I'll keep it in my wifes china cabinet and pass along to my kids.

Welcome to the forum KG, Im still new to collecting bucks so cant really help you here, but its a very nice looking stockman pattern buck, looks like a hunting edition of some kind, one of the guys here will help you out im sure ,

I guess I should have included the dimensions of the knife. It is 3 1/4 inches when closed. The longest blade is 2 1/2 inches.

I spent a few hours online searching 'buck 703 etched' but didn't find anything definitive as to age or value.

I believe the knife is called the Colt or Yearling. One of a series of model 700s dealing with horses. Out of production.

The blade was etched by Aurum Etchings of Texas. Out of business now. Did a lot of Bucks and others etchings. You can google the name and get some more info.
Surely someone who knows more than me on 700s will be along with exact details.

You could look in other talk spots, where I know some 700 people hang out.
