All About Pocket Knives

In response to popular demand we are going to have a VINTAGE KNIFE ROUNDTABLE. Here's the deal.

1. Knife must have been made prior to 1970. (preferably older)

2. Knife should have a market value of at least $60

3. Knife should be in good condition and fully functional

4. Knife should be one you would be PROUD to recieve. (this is not a POS roundtable, if you aren't willing to send a good one, don't participate.)


Those who wish to participate should post their intention to do so here on this thread and then PM me their mailing address information. You will have two weeks from today to sign up for this roundtable. At 6 PM Eastern time on May 29 the signup period will end. By the next day I will draw names and assign each participant someone to send a vintage knife to. I will post the list of who sends a knife to who by the end of the day Monday May 30. I will also send each participant the mailing address info for the person they drew via Private Message as soon thereafter as possible. (hopefully within 24 hours of posting the assignments)
You will have one week to get your knife shipped out to its new owner, which means all knives should be shipped out by Sat. June 4, 2011.

Participants are encouraged to post pictures of the knife they recieve on this thread so that others can share in the fun. It's not much fun to send out a nice knfie and never get any feedback from the recipient, so please post pics of your knives.

Come on people. Everyone that has signed up so far are generous and will no doubt have something awesome to submit. Take a look at your knives, surely there is a vintage knife that you would like to trade for something different!!!!!!! It is fun, easy and a great way to show off some new cutlery.

I would love to join the roundtable, however, I have NOTHING that meets the criteria. Those knives that I can value at $60+ are all post-1970 and those that are pre-1970, if I could even say they date in that era, are doubtful to be worth $60+. There are a lot of folks here that can meet the criteria and I'm sure they will be along soon.

I would participate, but for certain reasons, I can't.

I think there is hesitancy on the part of some members, myself included.
I do have knives over 40 years old that I may value at $60 or more, but will the guy I send it to think it is worth $60?
I would hate to send what I think is a nice old knife to someone who doesn’t think it is as nice as I do. Even if they don’t say anything in the forum, they might not like it, or worse yet, think I am a cheapskate.

I have a bunch that I would put in the $50 to $75 range, but I don't know if someone else would price the same. Besides, a lot of my knives that fit that criteria are ones I want to keep.

In review of the comments being made, I would like to ask that we stop this pass around. I apologize for not fully understanding the position of others. Possibly a revised version that better suits others could be implemented. As a lover of vintage cutlery, I sometimes misplace my focus on the wants and desires of other knife collectors. Thanks guys for indulging my passion for knives. This is the BEST knife site on the internet.

I'm not stopping this train........even if there are only a few passengers.

There are still several more days before the signup period ends and I'm confident that a few more folks will hop on for the ride.

We'll have other RTs to meet other areas of intrest in the not too distant future, but this one is for the folks that like the oldies.

Cool idea for a RT, and I would love to join in, but I must echo Mr. Murphy...I don't have anything that meet the specs. I have several that fit either category, just not both categories, but hey that's ok there be more RT's...have fun guys!

We shouldnt exspect everybody to enter this roundtable,,I ignored the pos round table because it didnt interest me at all,,most of my pos ends up in the trash. I dont really have any $60 dollar vintage knives either,,so somebodys going to probably like what they get.

It was not my intent to stop the RT, merely to explain to David why I won't be joining this one.
By all means continue on and have fun!
I will be watching and who knows, maybe I will join in next time you have a RT like this.
But right now I don't have a knife that fits the criterion of this RT that I want to trade off.

Watching this forum will also give me an idea of what knives y’all consider to be worth $60.
