I have this knife for sale on e-bay 220779964445 and I have a gentleman who wants to know weather this knife blade is carbon or stainless. Is there a test. I am VERY ashamed to say I am not sure I know the diffrence. I know some of my buddys on here can help me out How do you tell the diffrence between carbon blades and stainless. The knife is marked just Germany on the back not west Germany if this helps.I think there are some carbon specs so I would say carbon but how do you know for sure. Well what do you think boys Dennis

Big Den, I'm just guessing, but I'd say it's stainless.

Based on the "peppering" around the tang stamp, I'd say it is carbon. One thing you might do is to take a blade that is known to be carbon or one known to be stainless and check and compare with a magnet. The carbon blade should have a stronger pull than a stainless.

Carbon.
It would most likely be marked ROSTREI if it was stainless.
