All About Pocket Knives

HI!

Today was a pivotal day for me in my reseach for the Tidioute book that I am writing. I met with John Stitt of KaBar in Olean NY. He was a GREAT person to speak with and was extremly helpful with my project. If you ever get to the Olean area I highly recommend that you stop at the visitors center and look over the great display that they have. I was fortunate enough to be allowed into the back room where they have draw after draw of antique cultery. I was allowed to examine all that I wanted and believe me it was a THRILL for me to do so. A mint grizzly switch blade, was the probably one of the neatest. In addition I was able to photograph a 1902 Union Razor Co. butcher knife, which many believed never was produced. I can now prove that it was. In addition I was able to look at the board of directors meeting minutes from the orginal Union Razor co circa 1902 WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! great stuff.


You have to see the rock that is covered with old kabar and union knives that was dug out of parking lot where the original plant stood. This little piece held easily 50 knives and they told me that the pile had thousands in it. Man I wish I had been there that day.

PS I saw the original Kill a Bear photo that was in a store room behind a bunch of boxes. My blood pressure was off the wall with excitment.

And let me understand this right, the rock had knives in it?

I guess it really wasn't a rock, but it is rock hard. I didn't photograph it. The materail holding all of the knives was hard as cement, maybe that what it was, but it looks like a rock with knives mixed in it. What piece of history to have as a pape wieght. Although i would have been digging the knives out of the material, You know me.

I told her that there were hundreds just like me waiting to learn more and that they will be in to see it for themselves
