I picked up an old cheap fix blade that is cover in rust to try my hand at doing some restoration work. I want to try hand rubbing to blade with scotch brite to clean it, what way should I rub from tip to handle or spine to edge? What grit should I start with and finish with? Any other ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,

A picture is worth a thousand words.
Post some pictures of the knife in question so everyone can get a better picture to determine what advice we can give you on what should and shouldn't be done.

I agree with the picture.

I also doubt you'll get satisfactory results using only scotchbrite
