All About Pocket Knives

Hello, Guys.

I can't find the knife book that PAknives wrote at the present. (I am not sure where Bret might have stashed it )

The patent on it reads Nov. 5th, 1907. The stamp just says Union. I am wondering... Is this a Tidioute made knife, or would it have been made in Olean?

in my experience if it is not stamped tidioute than it was made in olean

chautauqua is absolutely right, if it isn't stamped TIDIOUTE then it isn't. The Union emblem (North America) (look at my avatar) was used in both era's but it would say TIDIOUTE if it was.

Bret & I are sooo happy to have it. The tip of the blade is a little messed up, but it still has great snap. Its hard to not play with it when its sitting on my desk...

KG. Here are some pictures of my UNION CUTLERY hobo. I think your tang stamp makes your pearl older than mine but has the same PAT. date. Mine is is tang stamped OLEAN N.Y. U.S.A.

It sounds like Kathy's pearl must have been an early Olean knife, before they got new stamps done? I wonder what sort of person would have bought the pearl/nickel silver version? There was a lot of oil money in the region at that time. I doubt many Hobo's could buy either one of these.....

I never even thought about the liner being nickle silver before.

Hello, everyone.

I got some more great information from Paul Tsujimoto at Ka-bar (My thanks to him!). He told me that this knife is a Union Cutlery 7291 K & F. The stamp on the knife is called a “North American Union” stamp and was first used after the move to Olean, NY. Approximate date using this stamp is 1915-1925. He also told me that the stamp & the mother of pearl does make it a rarer piece, even if the tip of the blade was probably reshaped after the tip was broken.

Just wanted to share the info.
