All About Pocket Knives

I just picked up this scout knife recently. It's an old Camillus with Rogers bone scales. I don't know anything about it. Can you guys give me an idea of when this knife was made? Thanks in advance.

I don't think Camillus used Rogers bone much after WW II.
It would help to date it if you could show us a picture of the tang stamp.
But it appears to be for the US Army, circa WW II.

that is a sweet looking scout knife, i love the rogers bone it has a nice feel to it and looks gtreat, here is the rogers bone on the ulster scout i was kindly given

i have one identical to this one, goin's says it was made between 1919-1941-love the handles on these!!

First off, it is not a scout knife. It is a WWII era U.S. Army Engineers pocket knife.

It was made between 1940-44, after 1944 they standardized the can opener blade to the safety type.

That is a pattern I have a hard time passing up at a show, if the price is reasonable.

i just put it in my pocket i use a chain type lanyard atached to my jean loop, and put it in my back pocket in fear ill loose it, although not lost a knife yet

Got one that servived a little heat. Fairly old, I think.

Some of those early plastics didn’t need heat to do that.
Those Camillus scout/utility knives from WII era, shortly before & after the war, tended to have unstable plastic handles. The handle condition is typical for that era. I see that one has pinned handles and it is not held on with prongs from the liner. I would guess it might even be pre war. Does that knife have a 4-line tang stamp?

Mornin' Y'all. Wouldn't the can opener place is at post-war, straight blade vs curved blade?

Dale, the tang stamp is three lines.

That looks to be the tang stamp used just after the war.
So that knife could have been made just post war until the mid-1950s.
There is still a good bit to learn about Camillus tang stamps, from all the lists I have seen.
I don't think anyone has them all right yet, including myself.
But one thing all the lists would agree on is that your knife is post WW II.
The difference would be when. Some would place it 1946-1950, others 1950-1956.
If I HAD to choose, I think it is the first one, (1946-1950).

+1 - the only thing that surprises me is that they are not more popular as an EDC option - relatively small, relatively light, multiple functions, lanyard loop, nice blade size, even legal in the UK... what more do you want?

I have an old Camillus that look just like yours, except for the USA inlaid in the handle. It has the same type of handle and the same blades too. I have no idea what it is worth, but wish I did. It is still very tight and snaps very good, but the blades do have some rust on them.
