All About Pocket Knives

This company made high quality knives at the turn of the 20th century. They did not last a long time in business, about 20 years, but they did make some nice knives that are coveted by collectors today.

According to Goins they started in 1900 and then the business was sold to Winchester and all the equipment was moved to Connecticut. So you have hard core Winchester knife and gun collectors seeking knives made by Napanoch as well.

Napanoch made knives for several other companies and retailers, some of which are Ulery, W.R. Case, Sears & Roebuck, and Keene Cutlery Co.

This is one that is marked Keene Cut. Co. and on the reverse tang it is marked Napanoch.

I don't have a photo, I wish I did, but I have a knife collector friend that has a Napanoch coke bottle folding hunter, essentially the predecessor of the Winchester 1920, that is in near spotless mint condition.

Just being able to hold the knife is an experience.

Beautiful piece. I wish I had the means of sharing it with you.

I grew up about 14 Miles from Napanoch, although, I didn't know about Napanoch knife at the time. We were a Schrade Family all the way when i was growing up!

If you weren't aware of it the Warwarsing Historical Society and Knife Association will have a rather large Napanoch display in the new museum. I think the Doc has his collection slated to be part of the museum.

Napanoch Elephant Toe Nail

This one belongs to a good friend of mine.I had a chance to buy it and turned it down(long story).Among the knives I was offered were a Case Bros. Little Valley,a Schmactenberg,a Wester Bros,and a Valley Forge.Don't ask!

Any argument that Napanoch was the only knife company that had the double fluted punch blade stamped 4/7/08 ? I have a few that I think were made at the Napanoch or Winchester factory.

You think so Steve?It looked pretty good to me but I've been fooled before.Here are some more pictures of it including the tang stamp.I don't know if he still has it or not but if it is a fake I would like to let him know.BTW all the blades were stamped if I recall correctly.

A total fake made out of a relatively modern German made knife (probably 1950's era).

I've got the remains of one of these German knives in my junk /rework practice box. That is definitely a fake. the blade stamp is the worst give away.

I have not seen Doc's collection although I understand it is impressive! I will see it when they get the museum up and running! I would like to also maybe catch up with you the next trip I make up that way...even if it's just for a cup of coffee!

Here's a relatively nice Wilbert Cutlery Co. lockblade jack most likely made by Napanoch and marketed by Sears & Roebuck.

Knifemaking makes strange bedfellows, so I'm hesitant to say something definitely is or is not kosher.
But, I just bought this Edge Brand knife off Ebay, and it is remarkably similar to the Napanoch pic.
The scans are terrible, but you can see that its almost identical, except for the scales.
I've also included the seller's pic.

any references on Napanoch tang stamps? Have a single blade equal end jack in good condition with Napanoch Knife Co on the front of the blade and Pat. Applied For on the back. It appears that it would say Napanoch NY under the Napanoch Knife Co stamp on the front, but the blade is assembled in such a way in the knife that only ...H NY can be seen. Does the Pat. Applied for make it an earlier knife or is this present on later models as well?

Well the ebay camera is nowhere to be found, but here are some OK smart phone pics. Tang pics are most important I assume. Any idea as to information, date, value, what it is, etc?

The liners are not brass, but steel it appears. Knife has a nice heft to it, snaps closed like a dream and snaps open nicely.Blade has been shapened, but not very much it appears. Correct me if i am wrong. No chips or cracks in the scales, no shrinkage or expansion. Very dark, almost black wood. The pin on the bolster opposite to blade pivot point looks strange, sticking out and not flush on either side of that particular bolster. Appears to have never been apart though. Slight swage to top of the blade. Any ideas Miller? P.S. - if you are into Miller's Falls tools, PM me!
