Schrade Lake & Walker SLW1 ? on eBay or is it a SLW2 ?

A new Schrade Lake & Walker SLW1 on eBay, has one thing I do not like. It has U.S.A stamped on the blade.
The BG42 steel blade was very hard to work with, and I find it hard to understand how the U.S.A was stamped deeply into the blade.
The later SLW2 knives where stamped U.S.A on the Schrade + steel blade.

My SLW1 dose not have the U.S.A stamped on the blade. My SLW2 knives below do. ::shrug::

i visited schrade in ellenville n.y. in 2003. not long before they closed,, as a matter of fact they were doing a lot of renovations to the building including a new store and visitors section. probably had tax problems.. anyways, i took their current knife brochures and price printouts. that knife is the slw2,, it retailed for $67.95 and it did have the u.s.a. deep etched into the tang....chet

The SLW1 does not have a serrated blade. And it has a serial number, 0001-1000. I think the USA could be etched but I'm not sure. I've seem some with nothing in the tang, interesting...

Hi thawk, I know the SLW1 did not have a serrated blade.
I have never seen a SLW1 with U.S.A. stamped on the tang of the knife.
All of the SLW2 knives do have U.S.A. stamped on the tang of the knife. ::shrug:: ::shrug:: ::shrug::

And none of the SLW2 knives had a serial number. Where is the serial number located on the SLW1 knives? :?

In this case, stamped numbers are not the question. [The numbers on the SLW1 where stamped on the back of the top edge of the blade]
The question I ask is, is the blade on the knife for sale on eBay BG42 steel ? ::shrug:: Why dose it have U.S.A. stamped on the blade ? ::shrug::
Why dose that knife have machine marks running down the blade ? ::shrug:: And why is the blade not polished to a mirror finish ? ::shrug::
There must be some-one that can help with these questions. ::shrug::

I don't think the blades on a SLW1 should be mirror finished. I think BG42 on them is satin polished, but I agree the steel looks like it is glazed stainless, like SCHRADE+. I think stamped serial numbers are certainly part of the mystery, as well as the USA. Different people might have different questions. It could be the wrong blade got in with the BG42 blades and got a serial number and the packaging. Larry303 over on bladeforums has a bunch of these knives, including some SLW2's with non etched blades. He will chime in over there but will not be over here, IMHO.

I'm not interested in the knife to buy, but I am interested in the knife itself. :)

I have posted some of my SLW2s here [one came from Larry303] I also posted my SLW1.#606
You use "Satin polished" I used "mirror finish" I used the wrong wording. Satin polished is correct.
I played with the SLW1 and SLW2 for quite some time, the SLW1 is heavier, the blade finish and U.S.A stamp is the only differance that stand out, even when you hold the two knives together. Ken

Hardware on the SLW1 should have titanium coating which should be a bit darker than the hardware on the SLW2.

It sold for $178.60. ::td:: That is a good price for a knife that looks like a Schrade SLW2. ::td::
