I just purchased my first Canal Street Cutlery knife. I am needing any information anyone has on this company such as when they started manufacturing knives and anything else you might be able to provide. The seller stated the knife I purchased was an early 2005 knife. I looked at Canal Street's webpage and it stated they have only been in business for 3 years but I dont know when the article was written. The knives I have looked at seem like high quality and look very nice buy I would like some other opinions before I attempt to put anymore money into the knives.

Canal Street Cutlery was formed largely out of Schrade after they went out of business in 2004...so 2005 sounds about right. I believe they occupy Schrade's old building, but I'm not sure. They make excellent quality knives. If I had the cash flow, I'd be buying alot of them, myself. I also think that many of the Canal Street cutlers were former Schrade cutlers who were displaced...and they knew what they were doing, in my opinion.

Canal Street Cutlery did start up in 2005. They are located in the former Schrade building on Canal Street in Ellenville, New York. As Elbertson stated, many of the folks there, including Wally Gardiner the CEO, are former Schrade personel. They produce high quality hand crafted knives. There is a forum here on AAPK devoted to Canal Street. Please check it out (http://allaboutpocketknives.com/knife_f ... m.php?f=71) and congratulations on the purchase of your first Canal Street knife. I love em!
