All About Pocket Knives

Back from the show down in Lewisburg PA, at the Country Cupboard Inn,
well, actually behind it in the Best Western hotel.
They had some folks from GEC there this year, and they had a LOT of very
nice knives to drool over, two of which I was able to bring home with me.

# 620211 also with Burnt Stag scales, serial # is 6 out of 25 made.

# 260210 with Burnt Stag scales, serial # 50 out of 50 made.

Fit and finish is very nice, all blades have a strong snap to them, but, they
were not near as sharp as I like to have my knives, no worries, a little time
on the Edge Pro and NOW they be sharp knives !!

While I like them both equally, I think I like the smaller one just a bit more than the other.

Both knives sport 1095 steel blades, and take a very keen edge indeed!

another member here she was looking to meet at the Lewisburg show, I happened to be carrying
a brown leather satchel, handy that

There were a few more GEC's that I would have liked to have brought home, but my wallet said
ENOUGH so those two were it, for now.

I saw someone have a snake wood scaled half congress, like to get that one!

Those are some excellent pictures for sure.

Ken and Ryan make a lot of shows, and are good people no doubt. Ken has forgot more about knives than most people know!

Thanks guys and Mike, got to meet Ken and his wife there, did some slight of hand tricks
the last one got him going, made it appear that the blade was extremely loose at the pivot
I felt bad as he got SO excited that the knife SHOULD never be doing THAT!!!
after I calmed him down and showed him the optical illusion he was a bit better but
did say that he doesn't get on the internet sites much but he might, just to talk about me,

and nope, no sheaths yet, definitely will next month, start back up bending leather then and I'll
do something for each of these rascals.

That Edgepro worked very well, of course, on these wharncliff blades, points are lancet sharp crazy sharp!

Titusville is at the other end of PA from me, a bit of a drive by would be interesting to visit!

All of you folks in Eastern Pa., N.J., and lower N.Y. state can have another shot at some new GEC's, and many other knives at the Eastern Pennsylvania Knife Collectors show in Wind Gap on March 19. If I'm not mistaken, Ryan Daniels will be there for the day.

something simple, angled back with two small ledges to rest each knife on
just to view while at work

I am glad you decided to check out AAPK! I did introduce myself to any man carrying a satchel that day before Galvanic1882 found me. It looks like some good came out of that after all!

And yes, these are both very nice knives, more money and I'd probably have at least one more with me now.

I was looking very hard at the executive wharncliff, but I couldn't get past how thick a blade it was
when compared to it's width, more wedge shaped and I felt that even if you put a good edge on it
the thickness would prevent it being a very good cutter/slicer in practical use.

MY take is they should reduce the blade thickness on that long blade and then, I'd snap one up

Otherwise the blade's profile kinda looks like an equilateral triangle, just a bit on the thick side for it's width...

The table you guys found me resting near belongs to my wife's uncle, Warren Strout, he has a large collection
of knives as well, myself, I'm more the user than collector, so both of these were pressed into duty straight away,
carrying both since getting them, better now with their keen edges!

Using the edge pro on small blades can be tricky, so I cut up a tongue depressor to fit
across the table and once position, I'll then also tape it down.
The wood is a little thinner than the back stop,
so now the stones won't hit before reaching the blade.



Provides a very cleanly made edge bevel, mirror polished, cuts very nicely
Here's a close up of the coping blade on the Congress knife, you can see
the reflection in the bevel area

There is a learning curve but it's not too bad, using a magic marker to
make sure you are setting the angle of the stones properly works great.

The 1/2" wide stones, which I just used on that small blade, is handier
than the 1" wide ones, just easier to see and use, but you could get
by with the wider ones if you had to.

I've tried a LOT of systems over the years and find this one to be very good.

So much so I traded almost all of my regular hones to my wife's uncle, still have
a couple for travel, but I'll rely on this to get things squared up first!

Still lovin' these two a LOT, wish I did have a little more $$ to pick up
one more, I like snakewood, but I think it's the stag that draws me to these knives!
