All About Pocket Knives

I always hesitate where to put these. They're not good enough for the custom or the custom factory section IMO, so I'll post here until told differently.

Here's another one I did from an old Schrade 204. Here's what it started out as:



After taking it apart, I mocked it up as a single with the liner lock...


I didn't like the liner lock or the original blade, so a quick email to Dale, who hooked me up with a nice Boker blade. All cleaned up and ready for assembly prep:


Here is the finished product...



Again, nothing fancy like file work or anything. The wood is Bois de Rosa, which didn't come out well in the pics. The wood has a nice grain. I made this for the other warehouse guy in our shop. It's a solid working knife, I hope he enjoys it.

BTW, the most interesting part was when I took the original apart, and discovered it was a Swinden key knife. What I ended up doing was to fill in the bolsters with solder and then file them flush inside. That allowed me to pin through the bolsters.

Bois de Rose can be beautiful stuff.
It has been my experience that the deep purple can be hard to capture with a camera.

The little hole in the bolster is not usually a problem if not filled because is is a small hole in the bolster.
They are not really hollow like some of the inexpensive German & Italian knives I have worked on. These are so thin that they will sometimes crush when you try to peen the pin. I have not had that happen with a Schrade.

Glen you get better with each project. If that guy doesn't like that knife I know a feller in KY who would be proud to own it. Great work.

Nice i got a few of those i keep tellin myself i'm gonna redo--think i'll give it a try when the weather brakes off and i can open the overhead in the garage--i picked up some a them Parker lock blades last winter with the intention re-doin figured they would be good to start on couple need attention anyway

Ya know, I hadn't been down in my shop for any decent amount of time. It's in my bsmt., so not that cold. I told myself that during the winter I would get down there and do some stuff, but the lazy side of me won out. A few months back I had sorted through my hoard, mainly to get the cell handle knives out of the pile so they would not do any damage to the other decent ones. Those by themselves make for alot of potential projects.

I just have to stay motivated to get down there and work. Got a couple multiblade knife projects in the on-deck circle. Those oughta be interesting.

Looks great; well done. I wish something like that was currently available. I like the GEC single blade EZ opens, but wish they were slimmer and a smidge longer.

I know guys like Dale (Orvet) and Kaleb (Muskrat Man) do these types of reno's all the time. And IMHO, they do them better than the factories. You might want to give them a try...
