All About Pocket Knives

Hi Folks,

I've seen many a posting on Rogers bone jigging, and although I know a particular company came up with the jigging pattern and many a member have posted on this topic, I still cannot determine what is Rogers bone. When I see some examples I can't see any particular pattern that is easy to indentify. I've truly given up on this one....

So, Blah, Blah, Blah, In an attempt to understand what pick bone is, I write this post. I've done some reasearch on the net and it seems it is what ever someone wants to call " Pick Bone", there seems to be all differing kinds. Does anyone know where the original name may have come from? I have to believe one of the older knife companys may have named their particular jigging because of this look. But what is It?

I'm with you Bonehead. I think Rogers Bone is like the nuns used to tell me, "Its a mystery".

If I had a camera I would show you some old pickbone,,,Its by far my favorite knife handle material,,infact my ebay handle is oldpickbone.

This is what I think of as "pickbone". The thing is, as the knife becomes more worn the ridges between the jigs grow into larger flat areas and eventually the jigs become more and more isolated, leaving the handles with fewer jigs and more flat area. This one is somewhat worn.

I found some good information and examples of Pickbone on this thread. Upnorth (Charlie) had posted some comparison pictures.

Here is another example of a knife that I consider to have "pickbone" handles. This knife has hardly been carried at all. I believe that, if it were carried, it would eventually come to look about the same as the one I posted earlier in the thread.

This is great information and the thread comparing the pickbone to the peachseed was also very helpful.

I wish they were all easy to indentify as the first threee on the left of photo "SchradeBone2.jpg" in upnorths earlier post, viewtopic.php?f=35&t=7955&p=95400&hilit=pickbone#p95400 But perhaps its not that easy. It surely is easier than Ole Rogers bone though.
