I had one when I was in the Gulf War '91. Traded it for a Colt scope. Never knew what the spikes were for. Never served no purpose in the War. Anyway, what were they for?

I was wondering the same thing. Sure looks like a hand-full.

wasnt the hooks for a grappling hook ? i had a copy back in the 80's was actually a pretty good one ,chinese of course but we are talking me now lol, this is the one knife i so remember from the 80's while flikking through guns and ammo and soldiers of fortune ive always wanted a jimmy lile first blood knife first movie these remind me of randles yet another ill never afford but love, i always wondered on the strength of these survvial knives

that is a great one you have there and its box tatty or not who cares

As far as I know the points were intended to be used as anchors for climbing. I'm pretty sure at some point Buck started issuing literature with these knives stating that using it as a grappling hook could not only be hazardous to your health but would also void the warranty

I drooled over this knife my entire childhood, I would sneak off the the sporting goods section of whatever store I was in with my parents just to get a quick look, I had to have one! Alas that fantasy has faded

I've obviously never used this one but from what I read the knife will hold up to whatever abuse you can throw at it, while also being extremely uncomfortable and a bit impractical..very cool "looking" none the less

yeah can you imagine it coming unstuck as a grappling hook and flying back at you I agree Christoph it is one of the coolest knives of the 80's and the one that always sticks out to me too, sadly here in the uk ive never seen one in the flesh just eh copy one i had, although i threw loads of abuse at that and it never bent or broke, but yours is very nice

What would be a good/fair price for one now?
