All About Pocket Knives

Here are two pages from a 1910 Joseph Rodgers Catalogue. I think a thread of old catalogue pages would be very interesting. These are the only two I have though so I'm hoping to inspire many more here. s-k

Here is a copy of a page from an old catalog circa 1918. The catalog is from Dunham Carrigan & Hayden Co. San Francisco CA.

This is a page out of a book I picked up a while back. The book looks like a home copied compilation of hardware store catalogs from 7 different catalogs between 1908 & 1938.

I hope you enjoy the pics. I just love the old jacks, but look at the second one down on the right, #2506 or 1506 (single blade version), this is what I want for Christmas::drool:: These are the real NYK Hammer Brand knives. I have a lot of the Imperial Hammers, but I don't have a NYK Hammer. I am told that the Imperials are a mere shadow of the NYK Hammers!

I say this on the really off chance that my wife reads this post (I mean way way off chance) and decides to get one for me for Christmas, (the chances of this is even more remote than her actually being able to find the knife).

Dear, if you cannot find a 2506 or 1506, ANY knife on this page will be just fine for my Christmas present.

Aside from finding original catalogues which is getting tougher and tougher compilations of old catalogues which have been marketed as books make an excellent reference. I am adding a picture which shows two of these books I do see them on occasion on ebay and they may be available at knifeworld in the used or out of print books they sometimes sell, for all I know these books could still be in print in either event they offer catalogue excerps from a myriad of companies. These old catalogues are truly wish lists. However recently I came across a really special old catalogue. just for the heck of it even though some of the companies who made these knifes have been gone for 100 years I decided to order one of the large bone coke handled knives advertised attached is the ad and the knife I received I guess I should have ordered 11 more since they were 38 dollars a dozen. Actually I just bought this knife from the Furrows auction in Tenn ( live bidding on line to bad it only works correctly about half the time. ) Since I was just putting it away and saw the old cataloge ad I thought I would have some fun with the posting. LT PS it cost me a bit more than the 38 dollars a dozen in the ad. Hope you enjoy the pics.

I've always thought this ad was pretty cool... It's a copy of a copy I scanned from Knife Album by Colonel Robert Mayes.

I don't know much of anything about 'em.

I finally ordered Mr. Langston's book today to extend my knowledge. I'm really looking forward to getting ahold of it. Thanks Rich for providing that resource! I've heard nothing but great things about it.

Why would you stop at a dozen life is to short. here are 12 dozen. By the way all those models are in this group. LT PS if you have a specific closeup of a particular domestic automatic you would like to see please advise. Tough to get close up on all these at once. But it is a great problem to have.

Hey Musky don't worry with some luck you will have a lot of years to get them tell ya what I will swap you a few wrinkles and years for some. By the way your package went out it is on the house use them in good health and keep making those knives I do not know if those blades will work for the project you mentioned but if not I will look around I just grabbed what i saw first, it is getting cold in upstate NY and with my looks and bear season on I do not go out to much. Hi All, Here are my old catalogs with some knives from the same companies. Carrier Cutlery in Elmira NY and Nagle Re-Blade from Poughkeepsie NY.

Nagles ( especially your display ) the best in the world and known to be so, are fairly well known ( and super sought after ). However some people do not realize that Poughkeepsie had two knife companies the other was KIPSI KUT. It was not around long. Here are a couple of them

Some years ago Sears came out with a facsimile of their 1902 catalogue, it's over 1000 pages, all very interesting, they include knives of course.

Here is a 1923 pocketbook type Sears reproduction catalogue . DBI books INC copyright 1973. So I guess there are several years which were done. This will give you an idea of what to look for at the next yard sale. again great knives ( hint look for the Wilberts sold by sears ) made by various contractors including Napanoch.

A while back I found a book which was a copy of 7 different old cutlery catalogs, mostly from hardware stores. The dates ranged from circa 1908 to circa 1938.

Here is another page from the Winchester Simmons catalog of 1924. It is subtitled "Knives By Keen Kutter." It shows how "How There Are Made."

The Book these came from is a copy of a copy, at least a second generations copy, maybe a forth or fifth generation copy or more. I spend about an hour or more in Photo Shop cleaning up each page so they are more legible.

Sorry, I tried copying it in as a clickable link but have never been able to do that. I have downloaded two of the files which have many pages of Keen Kutter catalogues. I have about 30 catalogue pages so far on my computer in pdf form. I think to put them directly on here I would have to scan them to create jpeg's and then post them?

Edit: looked at the website again, it is a complete scan of a 1950's Keen Kutter catalogue in about 49 different downloads, it looks like about 4 or so of them include knives.
