All About Pocket Knives

Has anyone ever heard of a company called Aurum? Where are they made and when???

We need some more information... more context... I think they do embellishment work, like etching/engraving (Texas??), but I'm not 100% on that.

hey, i found something in brl3.

aurum (etchings) marked knives by alcas garland, tx. blade etcher 1974-1991

hope this helps. they're listed as high collector value

I believe it is made by the famous knifemaker "Auchit" who is known for surviving five weeks on a deserted Island. All he had to survive on was two cases of rum that somehow made it on the life raft with him.

He was later rescued from the Island and was over heard saying the now famous words "Aurum" when offered a drink from a passing tourist celebrating his rescue... To this day he uses that famous phrase on all of his celebrated knives.

If this is the same Aurum you're asking about, I know they did knives for Buck, Parker, maybe Case and others. Doesn't look like they are still in business.

Maybe someone will have an example to show us.

They forgot to mention in your link to cleanup that it took 128 seconds to sweep the residue in the corner at a cost to the tax payer of 72.385 million dollars. Our hoggers at their best.

Yeah, I believe that one was on the EPA Super Fund cleanup list. They finished 5-6 years ago. Ran off with the loot and left an enviremental disaster. wb is correct, cost millions in taxpayers $$$$. About $73 million sounds right. Aurum etching, if memory serves me correctly went out of business to avoid paying any of the cleanup costs, for one.
