All About Pocket Knives

I have all kinds of folding knives in my collection. Is a 4-blade Congress knife good to get started in carving before getting dedicated $$$$ knives? Thanks . . .

Mike, I also just tried my very first try at whittling. I used a Railsplitter which is equivalent to a stockman. Just get that sucker sharp so you don't find yourself trying to force the blade through the wood. I put a nice convex edge on my railsplitter and kept putting it back on the strop each day before I went to work.

Like I said, I'm no carver but I was more about trying my hand with a pocket knife than I was specialty tools.

howdy and welcome sonictek...I'd say use whatever you have and feels the most comfortable in your hand, and like MHill said, keep that sucker sharp!

I have a few congress knives I use to whittle with, one being a newer Case red bone medium congress, with cv (carbon steel) blades, I really like it. Also really like my Case humpback whittler in cv blades.
