Looks almost like a shortened bayonet.Still salvageable.Chuck it in a vise and draw file the blade straight again and polish.Add a set of wood scales and you have yourself a great user.

not a bayonete, i thought that myself...springfirld or garand right?
i should have posted a pic of the hilt...it is not machined for mounting...

the scales are the same as the military weapon...i hit gun shows looking for a set, but the fit was sloppy and why spend so much on some ugly plastic?

i am leaning towards some elk horn.
and yes...some vice work is in my future...i love doing these types of salvage...

I have one like that, Utica sold them as fighting knives using bayonets either late in the war or post war.
