All About Pocket Knives

This was also one of my dads that i dont know anything about.... the blade has no markings on it. Im wondering if it would be a good idea to keep good care of it or just use it

It looks to me as if the machete was a bolo machete (probably commercial) that was modified by cutting the top of the blade into a clip. I've personally never seen any issue machete that looks like it, but I could be wrong. The sheath is for a USMC Hospital Corps knife. After 1942, they were marked USMC and the date. I would say the sheath is the item to be the most careful with as far as using. I wouldn't hesitate with using the machete, but of course taking care of it like any other knife is always a good idea. Maybe get a cheap 12" commercial nylon machete sheath to carry it in.

Upon further inspection of the knife now i see that it was made in japan... I guess I will have to do some searching for the correct knife

The sheath still has the clip on it which i guess some people have them missing. The knife was given to me when my dad gave me what I was told was his belt from the military so i figured they all went together. Thanks for the info and now I know if I need a big knife I have one

finding a bolo for that scabbard will not be easy...but the leather looks great...DO NOT THROW IT AWAY PLEASE.

Well ill keep an eye out for one either way. What do u think the bolo would go for?? Hopefully I can find one at a yard sale where the person doesnt know what they are selling

And dont worry, I will never get rid of it. Even empty and all ill hang onto it

i sold one twenty years ago... big bucks then, though i do not remember how much it was.
