It was proclaimed in 1919, here in the States to commemorate the end of World War I at 11 am on November 11, 1918. It became Veteran Day in 1954 to honor of all those, living and dead, who served with the United States armed forces in wartime.
Here is an old knife paid for by private donations issued by the Red Cross in that First World War.

Thanks for the reminder 9ball. It is known as remembrance day here in the UK and we honour all of those, past and present, from around the world who fought for our freedom... including those here on board. THANK-YOU! s-k

I for ONE would like to send a
BIG MEANINGFULL HUG to any and all VETS here at AAPK.
I do not have a knife to show for such an occasion.
I know from my dads experience, it was hard for him to buy anything made in Germany or Japan. I am sure many of you Vets under stand this too.
We must not forget, but just forgive, all the bad things that come to us in life.

You notice this year that Veterans Day is being celebrated on November 10 instead of the 11th.
This of course is to honor the United States Marine Corps as 10 November, 1775.
We are now 231 years old!
Semper Fi , Marines & Happy Birthday!
