All About Pocket Knives

Hey Draac....
That thang resembles an old "FLYLOCK" brand knife.
They are very desireable + that tortise shell scale is sexy.
However im surprised theres NO tang stamp..

Looks like a model #302 made by the Press Button Knife Co.

It should measure 2 7/8" closed. Tortoise shell celluloid handles, they were made between 1892-1923.

I got out the loop and my glasses (it's tough to get old..hehe. It is stamped on the tang).
I can read U.S PAT 470605 and on the other side I can see part of PRESSBUTTON KNIFE CO, WALDEN NY. So I did a search on the PAT number and found a link to the same knife for sale.

Old US PAT 470605 ONLY (PRESSBUTTON KNIFE Co. Walden, NY) TORTOISE celluloid handles 3-3/8" long closed double. Blades are full, and do not appear to have been sharpened, have original finish with a few very light stains. Both blades are stamped on the front tang "US PAT 470605" ONLY, no PRESS BUTTON KNIFE Co. Walden, NY - although this knife was definitely made by PRESSBUTTON KNIFE Co. Works great, both blades lock open solidly, no movement, and both blade tips sit below the handle when closed. Handles are beautiful, with only slight shrinkage at the tips, one tiny hairline crack @ 1/16" on each side of the rivet at the rear rivet on front and front rivet on rear, but does not affect the structural integrity of the handles. Clean inside like new. A nice old rare 100+ year old knife and stamp variation.

Measure your knife with the blades closed.

Big difference in price.

My knife is 3 3/8" closed. Same as the one in that auction. What other size would it come in that it would effect the price ?

Your blades are heavily worn and yours is missing a pin on the backside scale. Also the spring that opens the blades has to be strong, when you push the button the blades should fly out quickly and lock open. If the spring is weak or broken, value decreases.

My experience is that the smaller version is harder to find, and it is therefore more valuable than the more common 3 3/8" size.
