All About Pocket Knives

Does this knife blade look welded to you? I was looking at his for sale pile and noticed more than one of his knives had blades that appeared to be welded.

I really think that Myrtlefaye has long since lost the benefit of the doubt with the collectors on this site, and rightfully so.

In my humble opinion, it's a losing proposition to attempt to separate the authentic from the inauthentic using the photos from Myrtlefaye's auctions. The course of action I personally use is simply to ignore Myrtlefaye's auctions, "Once burned, twice shy", and I've been burned twice.

Oh, I would never order anything from him (unless he starts selling under a different name and tricks me!) I was just looking at his knives and when you enlarge the pics showing the tang stamps there are a few of them that look welded to me. I won't mention names but there used to be a guy that sold a ton of "old" knives on ebay and it was said that he welded blades good enough that you couldn't tell it.

Some of you might remember the guy, I just hate to say his name as it corresponds with a current member on AAPK....don't know if they are the same or not. I haven't seen this seller since I've gotten back to ebay. I'm sure he's lurking around somewhere.

I looked all 15 knives that MyrtleFayke currently has listed. By my count 11 of the 15 are either total fakes or reworks.

Well the word "prolific" comes to mind huh? He obviously has somone who does this for him or he does it. There have been many more burned as well, from the completed auctions.

Any idea what he used for donor knives? Some look to have been decent if less collectible ones before the butchery started. I really have to wonder how some people can be so easily fooled. Some of those knives just scream wrong.

I was told a few years ago that there was a man that worked for 3M company in Minnesota that could weld a knife blade in a vacuum capsule with robotics and not leave any marks. Any body else hear about this?

No, but if you ever have worked with a good tig welder, they can make an almost blemishless weld. They are more artist than welder. I have belt buckles made by pipe welders and you cannot spot the welds on the front of th buckle. Sometimes knives would be welded, but if they were new and bright the blue around the weld would tip you off. Used to be lots of Jeweler’s rouge and elbow grease used on the big jobs.

Fellers they are out there, great welders I mean. I have a brother that welding was the only thing he ever wanted to do since he was big enought to talk. He followed through with his dream and got certified in every kind of welding there is. He can weld everything except the crack of dawn and a broken heart. I've seen him weld two beer cans together and they didn't leak. Now that takes detemenation and practice. That being said, there is no doubt in my mind that many knives on Ebay are or could be welded.
