All About Pocket Knives

I just got this one in today. It has been cleaned but it is still very nice. Does anyone know the approximate age of this knife? The closed length of it is 2 13/16 inches.

They started using the hammer brand trademark around 1878 and imperial got the trademark in 1936, so somewhere in there I'd say.

Great old Hammer!

I have some of the newer ones, made by Imperial, but I don't think I have any of the original ones.

In 1878, New York Knife Company began using the Hammer Brand arm and hammer logo mark. In 1882 they added the words “Hammer Brand” to the arm and hammer logo mark. According to the USPTO records, it shows registration in 1886, and renewal/change in 1916. In 1931 New York Knife Company went out of business declaring bankruptcy, and yes, Imperial acquired the Hammer Brand trademark in 1936, reregistering it in 1937, updating it in 1945.

A really nicely jigged knife!
