All About Pocket Knives

i have 5 camillus true whittlers(primary blade on one end, secondary blades on the other end), all with the wedge center spacer. 3 are sword brand, 2 are camillus.the sword brands are tang stamped sword brand on the primary blades, 4 line camillus on the secondary blades, black jigged delrin or bone(can't tell which), bomb shields. the 2 camillus are brown jigged bone, all blades stamped 4 line(1914-1941). one has the bomb shield, the other one does not have a shield. i'm wondering if the one with no shield is rarer than the others, and if the sword brand ones are the same vintage as the camillus's. these are REAL knives, the primary blades on all 5 are 1/8" thick at the tang!all 5 almost require a pick to open the main blades!

I would say that the one without a shield is rarer. I have a couple of Camillus whittlers and both of them do have shields.

However, just because a knife is rarer, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's more valuable.

As far as the Sword Brand marking is concerned, I think that that marking was used throughout the entire four line era (and maybe before). I have never been able to determine what the rationale was for using the Sword Brand mark, althought it seems like I read somewhere that it was used on better quality knives. My own experience is that its use was random.
