So folks, here I am, carving again for the first time in years. I went out and got a few lengths of pine, (cuz well, where does one find basswood in los angeles) and have gotten to work slicing away. The one on the right is going to be a dolphin, the one on the left is inspired by some of the rebs Carvin Don has been posting here...certainly i'm not skilled enough to bring as much character to the carvings as Don but for a practice, not a bad place to start.
Of course, now that i've youtubed some basswood carving, i'm kinda bummed about using the brand new factory edge on my case whittler on pine - perhaps i should abandon these and just order some assorted basswood grab bags from woodcraft.com or something.
