All About Pocket Knives

I've always liked certain older knife designs, like stockman, whittler, and canoe patterns. I liked the concept of merging a canoe with a whittler and was so impressed by the quality and workmanship of my first cannitler that I bought a few more to keep.
From the top down the scales are mastodon ivory, red jigged bone, smooth brown bone and jigged brown bone.

Beautiful knives and an awesome collection, the red jigged bone bone scales are amazing.

Wow! Ditto to Johnny but I really like the smooth brown bone.

Thank you, gentlemen for your comments. I do believe that Canal Street is making some of the finest knives in current production anywhere.

Looking in my files I even found one. CS Cannitler 312524 Dark Amber Jigged bone # 002. I do not remember it but, it looks like I am on a new hunt. Just to hard to get out of my safe.

Beautiful knife you have there. That is one that I haven't seen. I know Canal Street has made some limited editions for dealers like A.G. Russell, that company has listed some unusual ones in their catalog.
The mastodon ivory knife with the scrollwork on the bolsters was a limited edition in 2007 for the members of another knife forum. The blade is etched "1 0f 57" and the serial number of this knife is 007.
I bought it from the original owner who decided that he didn't care for canoe pattern knives. I have no interest in collecting some knife types, too- but the canoe is one of my favorite patterns.
I just followed the link to the D.P. Hunter website and saw many great products. I will keep the site in mind when making new purchases. Feel free to forward my unsolicited testimony to the quality of their products on your next visit to the factory.

Got this beauty yesterday...2-1/2" Three Blade Cannitler, Mahonghany Buffalo Horn, #1 with both the CSC Shield and the Drop Point Hunter Shields. Better hurry and get a CSC Knife from Michael with the double Shileds fellas...Michael has informed me that he will not have any more produced with the double shields. What he has is what there is...COLLECTOR!...lolololo

I think I have a Canal Street problem. Can't get enough.

I almost reviewed this knife last week when I met with Mike Seigel of CSCC. It was such a cool knife.......I ended up selecting and reviewing the Sunsey Smooth Bone Moon Pie Trapper.

Thanks to this thread I now have a stag handled Cannitler on the way

Hello all, I just became aware of Canal Street knives, good reviews here. I have always been partial to Whittlers. Is the Canal Street Cannitler a two spring knife?

First things first............ to AAPK.

The answer to your question is yes. The two smaller blades each ride on a separate back spring. The main blade rides on both springs in true whittler fashion.

Thank you Philco, I think I will try to order one from the D P Hunter store. I saw Chestnut and Amber Stag in stock. The Canal Street knives seem to get better reviews on quality than Great Eastern, so they must be nice. Maybe I should order two; one for using and one for putting away.

I ended up ordering chestnut and tortoise shell. Wow, these are great knives, the fit and finish is excellent! The D2 steel blades can shave right out of the box - now, can I bear to use one?
