All About Pocket Knives

Ran across this on the bay and could not pass it up for $15 and free ship. Dirty and nasty but should clean up OK. Anton Wingen, Jr some kind of knife. From my searches I find that Anton Wingen pocket folders are pretty scarce.

Looks pretty good. The tools and blades seem to be in decent condition. Missing the scissor spring. Based on the can opener, likely made around 1920s-30s IMO. s-k

I think that with the combination of blades that your knife has it would be classified as a sportsmans knife. (A sub-category of the utility knife)

Thanks Joe. I'm kinda interested to see how I did on that Wingen. It looks kinda rough but if the handles, blades and springs are all good it will make a nice knife after a good cleaning

hey tj the spring from the scissors can be replaced most of the time pretty easily if its standard type spring like ok SWISS ARMY. i can see the hole where your spring the coil at the end of
the scissor spring would be tapped into but it look like a little piece is missing.so i dont know if one would stay in place with the simple method i came up with one day using a beat up SWA.

all you have to do is tap one out of a SWA the scrissor spring and tap it into your new find their.

youll need tiny little hammer,small vise and a beat up SWA you dont want but has spring.

when you tap out the spring that you are going to use it may have to
be slightly adjusted.the end piece being tapped in can be very slightly tightened
or even made to open up a little more to fit the hole.remember though you want a super tight fit
so were talking millimeters.

Received the Anton Wingen, Jr. Sportsman knife today and, I still feel sporty. All of the tool blades were fine except they needed a good drink of oil in the joints (well, so do I sometimes) and the scissor needs the spring replaced. And a little 0000 steel wooling to remove the surface rust, not the patina. The knife blades were a different story. Both blades were chipped along the cutting edge and both blades had been tipped. I drug out my trusty Dremel tool and my stones and went to work. The main blade is not perfect but that's OK. The little blade was the worst and I think I did a pretty good job of bringing it back. I think well worth the $15 with free ship.
