All About Pocket Knives

Is the Scout just a smaller version of the Pioneer? I want to buy another GEC and dont know what to choose? Thanks a lot!

Hey Jeffrey, I guess it depends on what you're going to use it for.

Both come in a two blade or one blade configuration. The real difference is SIZE!

The scout is 3 3\4 inches in length and an average handle height of about 3\4 inch.
It fits really nice in the pocket and is really solid.

The pioneer on the other hand is a massive knife! It is 4 1\2 inches long and the average
handle height is a full 1 inch. (The butt of the handle is 1 1\8 inch!) With the main blade out
on my two blade good-n-plenty the knife feels totally dominating!

Both are excellent folders and yes you could say the scout is a smaller version
of the pioneer. Smartly GEC made both sizes so we could make a choice based on
what we need them for.

My first GEC knife was a pioneer with brimstone handles. I've been hooked ever since.

Jeffrey I do not know what your first GEC is.

My guess is that you have a large 73 trapper.

With that thought in my mind, I would get some thing differant.

Here is my thought on what you should have then.

GEC 48 Club Burnt Stag 1095 CS 2010 3 7/8" or one in Ram horn.

This slim guy will fit very well in your pocket.

I want one in the rams horn but they are all out. I hope a shipment will come in. Have you heard when the Rams Horns will be available? If they are not going to come in I'm going to get the stag.

That #48 is a good pocket size,if you're wanting a carry knife-----the #23 size is a ""Big Handful"" and you'd need a belt sheath,for carry,IMHO

I really like the #73 and the #72 pattern for carry size__both are 3 3/4 in.__ the #72 is a single blade lockback, but still one of my favorites,because it seems to be a little slimmer,and easier to open. Good luck_______Monk

I would say the Scout is a scaled down Pioneer.

I just bought a new shredder that will relieve you of those old wrinkly things.

Makes me think of sitting in church and looking at the backs of my hands (old funky wrinkly skin).

Nice Jeffrey! I have close to 15 different Scouts in my collection now, just a great overall knife. You can use them for anything that needs a a blade, great in the pocket too!
GEC has no dogs in the bunch. Many I own are from the first year of production.
