I assume this Winchester plaque on Ebay is a reproduction. My question is how would you tell the difference between an original and a reproduction and what would the apxy. value of an original be?

In all liklihood it is a fantasy item. If old ones exist they probably came from showcases or gun racks. The legit examples of that I've seen are marked with a decal though, and not a brass plate. Here's a couple pics I took from Kowalski's 'Standard Catalog of Winchester'. Couldn't find anything even close to the ones selling on ebay.

I was asking because I know an older gentleman who has one that looks like the ones on Ebay. He claims his is old and worth several hundred . His story didn't make sense to me but I know absolutely nothing about Winchester store plaques so I thought I would ask about it on the forum.
He paid someone to make him a gunrack and the gunrack has one of these plaques attached to it. The person who made the gunrack led him to believe the plaque was valuable but,it seems now,that he just took advantage of the old guy.

A few years ago a Winchester plaque almost identical to this one that had much more detail with better quality casting and looked to be old as well as having casting ID marks on the back of it came up on e-bay. The winner beat me to death with his wallet to get it and then these reproductions started popping up a few months later. I draw my own conclusions.
