I have been wanting a Maize knife for a while now (don't know why - just wanted one). Finally found one last week.
Has a big backspring - lots of snap. 4 inches in length. I just like the looks of this style.

Found this Remington on eBay. I like yours better.

Thanks guys.
That Remington looks like the very tip might have been broken off or ground down? Some of the maize knife blades had more rounded bellys on them (kinda like me -

). Below is a picture from the 1939 E.C. Simmons catalog (mine is earlier - from the 1920s). Wonder if that Remington originally looked like the 1939 Simmons?
{Edit} Oops - or maybe that Remington isn't broken....I just saw an old New York Knife maize knife with the same blade shape.

I've always liked that style of knife since they are so utilitarian and useful. Great find.

Found me another one.....this one is a Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett. Exact same lenth as the Simmons - only not as stout a knife - the Hibbard has a thinner blade, thinner liners.....except the handles are much more round compared to the Simmons.

I picked up another old Hibbard Maize knife this week - my collection of these is growing. These are ugly old knives

- but they appeal to me for some reason.
The top one is the Simmons Keen Kutter, the bottom two are Hibbards. One of the Hibbards has model 9749 on it - it is heavy duty - thick bladed - lots of snap, like the Keen Kutter. The other Hibbard is model 212....it has a thinner blade.
Also a pic of a 1933 Hibbbard Spencer Bartlett catalog detailing the 9749.
Somebody else post some pics of some Maize knives!!
