All About Pocket Knives

Got these three knives(1 last night and 2 today).The KA-BAR was at a sidewalk sale for $5.It looked pretty sad but a little work with the 320 grit sandpaper and Mother's brought it right back.Only detriment is a small grinder notch in the false edge;looks like whoever owned it tried to make a personal mark on it.Still works nice and is scary sharp.I have a couple of these;one I bought new and the tang stamps are different.This looks like the early stamp although I know they never made an early knife of this pattern.

Second one is a utility pattern with a Craftsman etch and sheath.It does NOT have any markings as to who and where it was made.I thought at first China but the construction is much better than any Chinese utulity knife I've ever seen.The wood scales are held on with brass pins(3 on the bottom and two on the top plus an Allen screw);everything is highly polished and there is a plastic guard over the blade.Anyone have a guess as to who made it for Sears?

Last is the piece de resistance:a HUGE grape harvesting knife stamped,"Hoffritz Made in Italy".I have an older knife that is similar but nowhere near the size of this thing!It is in very good shape with locking blade and hardwood scales.When I first saw it I thought someone had removed the bolsters but that is how the knife was made.There was some staining of the blade which I cleaned up rather easily.

All in all a good day for collecting.

I've got one of those KA-BAR lockbacks like that somewhere in my various piles of knives. They're really a well built knife. I don't think mine has ever been sharpened.
