Bayonet...US or Foreign..?

I'm trying to help a buddy identify his old bayonet...it's 27" OAL...brass handle and is light for it's size.
Has an anchor insignia on the guard and some other marks that are not very legible.
Unfortunately someone cleaned it up, but the blade is good condition. Any info would be helpful or
point us in the right direction.
