All About Pocket Knives

Nice fourm. Seems to be alot of highly talented folks here, and some know about knives! Any help would be highly prized;
top knife says Hubertus Solingen, backside Rostfrei (stainless).scales are jigged bone
Next one says D.R.G.M., with a 6-7 digit #
3rd one is Tina, backside 6/?/10; I know its a grafting knife
last is a Hammer Brand; has the arm/w hammer logo. What have I got so far as collectable's?

The Hubertus is very collectable,nice scales! The Hammer brand is collectable but less expensive.The other 2 I've never heard of. Sorry I couldn't be of more help but I had to comment on your Hubertus.Thats a nice looking knife and I love German knives!!! I'm sure someone else will know more.

I don't know if you can see, but the tip of the Hubertus is broken; how much of a negative is that?

the tina is a german knife from c1890 till recent or posibly still. all i have is they made budding and grafting knives. tina is posibly the manufacturer. high collectible rating according to brl 3rd.

Tina made a good knife, I have one of thier pruning knives. The hubertus is very nice. An experienced person could easily fix the point of the blade, no problem, and make it look origional. Welcome to the forum

Doing this doesn't make it look original, it has now been reshaped. As long as it is presented as such, I have no problem with it. This leads me back to a discussion I had on this forum recently concerning the term MINT. This is a nice old knive, although it can never be original again. It may be in good condition and does have value, but the scales "not jigged but grooved" look good and the broken blade makes for this condition rating. Closer examination would reveal any other problems or improvements. Collectable YES, original NEVER. The rating of the condition of a knife is the toughest thing that collectors face next to counterfiets. Just my opinion though. I look at each opprotunity to learn more.

Hi Pa,
I never said anything about concealing it, only making it more useful. See, I'm not really a collector. If a blade is broken and I can reshape it to make it look as close to origional as possible, I'm happy. I don't try to mock knives up to try and get premium dollar out of them. Merely make them look as good and as close to origional possible for a really nice user. I hate to see a knife that has the blade broken and terribly reshaped into a ver ugly useless shape, when they could have brought it back to look almost origional. In short I guess what I'm trying to say is , I fix'em nicest and best I can to use, not to resell as unbroken. I guess what I should have said is "could be made to look close to origional"

DRGM. Deutsches Reich Gebrauchsmuster (German Reich Registered Design)
Items marked as such are fairly collectible. I am pretty sure they are from the old West Germany before wall came down. Looks to be worn considerably. Probably best bet to keep it as an EDC.

Muskrat I dont think Pa was being critical, everyone has probably retipped a knife or two. Only the disreputable, attempt to sell as original and it would be my hope that no person on this site falls into that category.
