All About Pocket Knives

Look at what I let slip past me. I had bid earlier, but then didn't monitor the auction at its end. My granddaughter was on the computer last night.
I had forty dollars on it. It sold to some one else for fortyone.
This is the oldest piece of Robeson paper I've ever seen. Dated July 14, 1889.

I feel your pain. Been there and done that myself. A few months back I spotted a rare Official Boy Scout knife on ebay. It had only one bid on it and I decided to lay low and try to snap it up at the end of the auction. In two years of daily monitoring of all Boy Scout knives listed on ebay this was the first, last, and only example of this particular knife that I had seen listed.
On the night the auction was to end, my attentions were diverted elsewhere, and when it dawned on me the auction was ending, I sprinted to my computer only to find I had missed the end of the auction by a couple of minutes and that this rare knife had sold for a song.
My only consolation was thinking of the signiture line Sauconian uses "If it's meant for me to have it, it will still be there." I figured it just wasn't meant for me to have that one.

It was a Cardinal Cutlery Company fixed blade in excellent condition, and it sold for less than $40. That knife was only produced from 1945-1948. Oh the pain of it all!

Don't feel too badly , he probably had an automatic bid of up $100 or so . (Although you could have made him pay more dearly)

I can REALLY feel your pain Charlie! If you want to see what I let slip by me check out my last post in the thread(General discussion:They're STILL out there).Note the three pictures of the knife.I'm STILL kicking myself for letting that one get away..............

If I remember correctly the marking was only acid etched on the blade, not tang stamped.

The etch wore off easily and many of these are not easily identified as Boy Scout knives.

Keep your eye open in the fixed blade section they turn up without the etch and sell cheap
