All About Pocket Knives

My main interest is with Case knives but lately I've become interested in Utica Knives. I know they share the Kutmaster brand name also. I live about 3 hrs. away from them. I may just order a green bone handle stockman I've been eyeing on e-bay. What do you folks think of the level of quality with this manufacture?

I live about 73 miles out of Utica...been to the shop a few times.I like Utica because: 1)two other knife companies within 95 miles of my house no longer exist (Schrade,Camillus) and I'll support Utica as long as they offer a decent quality US made knife worth the price
2)from what I've seen and heard,they still offer a decent quality US made knife worth the price

They're not art quality knives,but any I've ever owned were well made users and,to me,worthy.

I don't know the quality of them but I hope it's good since I just bought one. 2 7/8" Kutmaster Pen w/pearl handles. Don't know the age either but would imagine it's pretty recent. Pretty little knife.

We had an earthquake today. My wife was home and said she thought a big train was driving through our back yard. Not the norm for this part of the country. We heard on the news of a tornado warning. What the hell's going on. I thought ice storms were our biggest threat...lol.Any who I'd like to support the Utica Cutlery too and will purchase some to carry and collect.

Don't know,Gene.I worked on some cellsites in your area before and never heard of it being on or near any fault lines...and this weather hasn't been too normal lately anyway,in my opinion..gotta wonder

Need your help and/or advise. I received the Kutmaster pearl pen, see pics above, and the main blade is really loose, side to side wobble. Can this be fixed? I can squeeze it together with my fingers and make it tight. Seems the pin is too long. I guess I need to send it to one of our great knife mechanics?

Hi Teleman, would of posted earlier but went up to Eau Claire Wi. and adapted a Bluetick. Anyways, Uticas are a huge favorite of mine, in fact, I just got the first production run set of the new UTK's, both brown and green stockmans and trappers, a few days back. I think the UTK quality is higher than the Kutmaster line in that they use 420ss blade steel compared to 400ss for the Kutmaster. Either way both make good edc's and are underrated and under-collected knife brands. You can't really go wrong with the low prices either.

UTK quality is higher than the Kutmaster is true because this is proven and tested by many users.

I just downloaded both catalogs for Uticas and Kutmaster from the website available in PDF format. I'm getting more and more interested in this company as this year is their centenial (1910-2010). They have a commemorative set available of a Trapper and Mini Trapper w/ ivory colored bone handles that are laser engraved depicting the actual original and current location along with a grinding station.
The Big Pine series features deep green jigged bone handles. I'm planning on ordering at least a couple different patterns in this series.

HERE IS A UTICA THREE BACK SPRING WHITTLER WITH SLANTED GROOVED PINCHED BOLSTERS, ETCHED MASTER BLADE WITH LONG PULL SPEY AND PUNCH BLADE. THE HAR-MAC ETCH IS A HARDWARE CHAIN HARPER MCINTIRE WITH A WAREHOUSE IN OTTUMWA IOWA.

i dont know much about the new ones.i got several old utica,kutmaster bone handled jacks,dogleg,swell end,equal end that have the quality of the other well known makers,i think one or two of my uticas are actually better quality than the higher priced brands that i have.but im happy with just about any nice old vintage knife.to be honest with you i keep an eye out for uticas.
