Finding the butt pins on a new 110 or highly polished LB7

I recently did a few buck 110s and it was really difficult to find the pins.
After some trial and error I think I found a really reliable method to get those pesky buggers to show up.
There where brand new knives, so they could not be seen at all.
What I did was to sand one side with 1500 grit until I could sort of see them at a angle. I then put a dot with a sharpie in the general center area, then gave each dot a good whack with a center punch. Then I turned the knife over and sanded the other side with the same 1500 grit and they then showed up plain as day.
Hitting the one side with the punch caused the other side to move just a bit allowing the edges to become highly visible
when sanded.
