All About Pocket Knives

I don't buy too many "new" knives, preferring to stick to the old knives - mostly EC Simmons Keen Kutters. However, I have been looking for a EDC with a liner lock, and preferably something with a wharncliff blade. I don't care for the tactical knives - I prefer a traditional looking pocket knife - something under 4". I saw the Kershaw double-cross on one the posts here a couple of week's ago, and it looked like it had everything I was looking for.

I ordered one (paid $42) and got it in the mail yesterday. I don't own any other Kershaw's - this one is made in Japan. I have to tell you, I am pleased as punch with it. It is 3.5", wharncliff and clip blades, thumbstuds for one handed opening. And it has a cool liner lock which locks both blades on either end (it is crinked the opposite way on either end). Real slick engineering - and it came shaving sharp - AUS6A blades.

With a little practice, I can now flick it open and close it with one hand. I think I have a new favorite EDC.

Here are some pics, where you can see the "S" shaped center liner lock, which locks the blade on either end (pic #3). The knife doesn't seem to have a backspring. There is a little "tit" on the liner lock, which snaps into a recess on the blade tang when you close the blade.....which keeps the knife securely closed.

I love mine, it's been in my pocket for about 5 years. I had some black linen Micarta added.

I really like mine and have using it a lot lately. Found mine on the auction sight, new without the box and got it for around 25.00. Seemed like a good deal.

Having stag put on the handle sounds cool, if you do it post a pic. I would love to see it!

I have both the Double Cross & the Wild Turkey.

I am working on bone handles on the Double Cross.

Here are a couple Wild Turkey that I rehandled.

This one is rehandled in Tiger Coral.
This one is my EDC. Re-handled in scraps of bone from other rehandle jobs.

How do you rescale one of these? Do you send them somewhere or do you do it yourself? Is there a tutorial available?

Dale, the Wild Turkey in tiger coral is beautiful and unique. Seeing the knife in a white handle really sets it off so differently. .............unique! Apparently you enjoy the knife as you carry the patriotic themed knife every day.

No, I did it myself, sort of like I learned to repair knives;
I took one apart to find out what made it tick, then I modified it and put it back together.

Pretty easy really.
Except it is a bit tricker than a regular slipjoint because I was not familiar with the design.

Hi Wosey,

That's a good looking double cross - I like the darker wood handles. Saw where they are only making 250 of them, so I guess they focusing the new model on the collector market, rather than the EDC market? (not to mention the steeper price)

I looked around for the cheapest price as well......looked on AAPK stores first, but didn't see one. I wound up buying from a store on e-bay ("buy it now" method) for $42.83...after shipping it cost $45 and some change. That was the cheapest I found for "new in box". Let me know if you find some place less expensive - I may give some of these for Christmas presents.
