All About Pocket Knives

Hey guys, I need a little help from you Buck guru's.
I would like to know the age of this 112, I know you have an aging sheet, but I don't understand the different years and changes.

From 1973 to1985 the bucks were marked with BUCK ,a model # In your case #112 and U.S.A.
Buck started also marking or dating knives with symbols in 1986 with a different symbol for each year.
For example-
1986 <
1987 >
1988 ^
1989 v
1990 X
1991 +
1992 -
1993 /
1994 \
Well you get the point!

With that tang your knife was made between 73 and 85.

I'd call it at 73 or 74.

They went to *112* sometime in 74.

I bought a herd of knives a while back and this was buried in the bottom of the pile. After I threw out all the Chinese trotline weights, I think the cost per knife of what I had left worked out to be about 8 bucks. This was one of the keepers.

I have a buch of 110's but not one 112!
I think i will have to do something about that

your actually the reason I got this knife, I was looking back at some old posts and saw your 112, I really liked it so I asked my grandfather if he had any 112s for sale or trade, he pulled it out of his box O knives and handed it to me.

That version came in two different scales. Segua wood and Ebony.....Its hard to tell in photos ....but I am hedging toward Ebony because of the stripes. Sequa is usually light in color and has lots of grainy surface visible to eye and touch.......300

What type of blade steel is the two dot three pin 112's?

That steel would be 440C.

And I would say the slabs on the knife in question could be Segua. It's just a bit more likely that they are the Ebony as 300 said. To me it is pretty much impossible to tell for sure from that picture.

This is the only 112 that I have.....I had MM do some filework and put red spacers and jean-carta scales on Her.

yes i do like a good user knife, this one will be spot on, i have given it a bit of a polish but i think ill leave it as it is, those bolsters really tarnish up, i remember my old copy i had back in the 80's , i used to use brasso to polish it, i was a bit OCD back then as well

Here's one for ya.

I received this one in '85 or '86 (if I remember correctly) as a birthday gift. I don't see this tang stamp on the list or I am overlooking it. The dot on the right of the less than sign is throwing me. Any ideas?

You may be right...but I thought it was wood.. ....Muskrat Man done this one for me.

i read that they used it on the first 112 in about 1969 but changed it to wood same as the 110, i have a friend who does nice micarta i might in time get him to take this 112 apart and polish up the blade + bolsters and do micarta scales, i do like micarta
