All About Pocket Knives

Can you give me some advice on a good pocket knife I can purchase, the knife be carried and use every day. I not looking for an expense collectable that going to be put in a draw and never used. This is something I would pass down to my son. Purchase range up to $180.

Also, any recommendation on a good web sites to purchase from? Are gun/knife shows a good place to purchase from? We have one coming up next weekend in Fort Worth, Texas called High Caliber Gun knife Show

KYKid You can find a whole bunch of Knives in that price range! Are you looking for a Traditional Folder or a Tactical Folder? For a Traditional Knife there are many in the AAPK Members stores. You can't go wrong with a GEC brand. For Tacticals I usually Buy from these Guys, Good Prices and First Class Service.

Kid, click on the link for the stores here at AAPK; some fine knives at good prices. If you are buying something to use and pass down; Great Eastern Cutlery knives come to mind. And you want have to spend; any where near $180 for a great quality knife.

The nice thing about going to a show is that you can pick-up and check how a certain style or make of knife fits and feels in your hand. I would recommend you do some reseach ahead of time, then go to the show.

All good choices. Personally, I like the GEC Northfield stamp with natural material scales. Schatt & Morgan are also very nice. I would stay away from any knife with celluloid handles. While beautiful, they can be very tempermental. GEC makes a lot of acrylic handled knives that should be quite durable. Stainless steel looks good for a long time, but I prefer carbon steel for a user, as it generally takes and holds an edge better. There are a number of fine dealers here on the AAPK website. "The quality remains long after the price has been forgotten".

You ask about "a good pocket knife" and what I am about to suggest now may not be the answer you want, but I'll take the liberty to offer an answer with a twist.
$180 is a lot of money and you will be able to find many really nice knives to choose from. Another possibility is splitting the sum, and you may alternately get two good knives for that money, for instance a Stockman and a Whittler, or maybe one traditional pocket knife and one with a more modern design?
Personally I would probably go for that splitting option... I like to have several knives as users and alternate between them.
Just a thought...
